So after we rafted down the Niobrara, I just couldn't wait to shoot a portrait. Hence this modeling session with Chad and Jes. The recently ENGAGED Chad and Jes! Congrats!! The idea popped in my mind to check out the higher points of Kearney and where better than a rooftop, right? Easier said than done. The permission thing wasn't the tough part cause I got connections (thanks, Heath!)...it's the climbing up a really tall ladder, then another homemade ladder made of 2x4's and once we got to the roof, trying not to poke holes in the covering. That's tough business with high heels, a 50 lb tripod, and not to mention racing against the sun. We had a blast, though! Maybe it was the couple drinks we had first, or the glow of new love, but these two are complete naturals in front of the camera. And Chad---who sells surgical orthopaedic implants and such--- NATURAL! Jes--- look no further for a job. This is your calling. Fun location to try... I'm glad you guys were up for anything. Don't know if I'll ever make it back up the ladder(s)...I'm a little more afraid of heights than I ever thought, but great to try.

baby brooks
Remember these peeps? Justin, Tasha, and Payton. Plus one. Meet little Brooks. Quite a hungry little fella...but he just wouldn't sleep for us (at ALL). I guess he figures he'd miss out on something important. But here is what we know about him: he has incredibly large feet, he squeaks for the hell of it, and his favorite thing to do is cry. Justin can attest to this. He is a great daddy, though. They have quite the system, too. Tasha feeds, Justin burps. Feed, burp, repeat. Congrats, guys! We couldn't be happier for you!
baby claire
Yes! Finally have blocks of time to work uninterrupted on my inbox. And as I look through my sessions over the last couple weeks....one word sums it up. Babypalooza. 3 newborns and 3 more scheduled in the next month! Must've been a cooooold winter!
But here is baby Claire...who was 6 days old when we took these. Karri and Scott waited 5 long years before she arrived. Totally worth it. And she was good and sleepy. : )
Scott is a turkey hunter. Must I say more? "Why not," I said. She didn't even tinkle on it. Too bad. ha ha Just kidding, Scott. Nice job on the dead turkey carcass.

the 'V' family
First of all, sorry for not posting anything virtually all week. I have fallen behind my editing schedule, too...so I really appreciate everyone's patience. Second, thank you to all of you who kept my family in your thoughts and prayers during our sad time. The service was very nice yesterday, and the pastor said that "Matt would MUCH rather be golfing today, I'm sure." It was a beautiful day for golf and perfect to reflect upon Matt's life.
On a lighter note..... I LOVE this family! Not only are they friends of ours, but their children are models. Really. Remember seeing them under my hat collection? Hat models...now real models. They have perfect skin... they are as cute as can be. Joe and Lynette have so much love for their little rugrats, too. They always always put family first....even at community olympics last year, Lynette toted all three kids to go watch Joe participate in all his events. It was so hot and Carson was barely walking, but by gosh by golly...they cheered daddy on with the best of us! So here they are.... can't wait to photograph you guys again and again!

in memory
Some sad news came to our family early Sunday morning. My eldest cousin, Matthew Henriksen, was tragically killed in an auto accident near Holdrege, Nebraska. He was 35 years old. A son, husband, and father. Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers. His funeral is scheduled for Thursday. He will be greatly missed--especially by our little Brooke.

ian
This is Ian....he loves music....hence the guitar. I'm in love with these pics and I loved photographing him. Eventhough I stepped on a nail at one point and his mom had to run to the car and get me a band-aid. He was a little slow to warm up...no suprise there. He's a teenager and I pryed him away from one of his last hot days on the water before school started. But as all seniors do, by the end he was posing himself. Everyone has an inner model in them....sometimes it just takes a while for it to shine through. : ) They live on a lake. Lucky. I really hope he likes these, though. I haven't heard anything back yet! I'm on pins and needles! Com'mon Mary....I'm waiting. : )
true beauty
Here is a quick sneak peak for ya, Alyssa! I tried to get them done before school started.... sorry! But I'm 50% done on the bright side. ; ) Isn't she beautiful?! I am head over heels in LOVE with her haircut. And I think she looks like Paris Hilton in the hat ones. She really looks lovely in the hat, too. Thanks Alyssa for being so up for anything! ....and Alyssa's mom, well.....thanks for being honest. I definately got some "traditional"...cough cough BORING! .... shots for you, too. : ) Enjoy! You'll be getting an email soon!

darby one year
This is little Darby...they used to live up the street and now they don't. : ( Although we didn't get together as often as we would have liked, it was still nice to know you were a block away. The neighborhood will miss you.
Also thank you Amy for taking a risk with me...especially since we were on Central Ave.
Ran into another photographer, too.... that was awkward. How wierd is that?! Really wierd for me... I only know names of other photogs in time....no faces. And I'm not really a competitive person, but I felt a little spark this night... he he he But on the bright side...got to model my new hat! Darby rocked it!
test of time
On the way home, Dad showed me his old stomping ground...Miller, NE. Kind of a ghost town. And this particular house was spooky. Eventhough I'd love to do a session here....
In this house lived a family of four... some distant cousins own it now...but it is just across the road from where my Dad and his sis grew up. He said that every Christmas his folks would send Dad and Judy across the road to give these people a box of chocolate covered cherries. By the time they got back home, miraculously Santa had been there. Every year...the same scam. Clever!
in case you're wondering...that's a tv set in the corner. A mouse lives there now....I know that because I saw it! Ick!
niobrara
Ah yes...I can smell those bacon-wrapped burgers now! So delicious. We ate pretty darn good eventhough we were camping....and Aunt Judy had a broken toe. I don't have any pics of tubing, I'm afraid... I didnt' want to hassle with my camera getting wet--although for the rest of the trip, I just had my "back-up, 2nd-best" camera along.
L to R: Aunt Judy, myself, cousin Janelle, Dad, Grandma Helen. (not pictured: my husband, Uncle Don. They were golfing.
this region of Nebraska is so sparcely populated eventhough the scenery is so beautiful..... this was taken at the Norden Bridge at sunset.
the bridge was a little scary and old, but neat to read all the past visitor's names.
went to a ranch in Sparks to horse-back ride...they had the sweetest little dog. Lucy Rover. lol She showed up as a stray around the 4th of July and goes along on all the trail rides.
When Grandma said she'd go, I was nervous. She will be 80 on Halloween! But she kept up with the best of us! Love my Grandma....
my horse....Smoke.
my aunt got a mule/horse to ride. I'm wondering which one is more stubborn....
and of course no vaca photo album would be complete with a meal pic! We ate at this vintage cafe in Bassett on the way home. Fried chicken was the special! Finger-lickin good.
